While the Contraceptive Implant is a safe and effective contraceptive method for many women, certain conditions may disqualify you from using this method. These include having any condition that requires you to avoid progestin or whose medication will reduce the effectiveness of the progestin hormone in preventing pregnancy.
When should I not get the Contraceptive Implant?
- If you suspect that you might be pregnant;
- If you have any liver disease or tumor;
- if you are experiencing unexplained vaginal bleeding (your doctor will need to investigate the cause of this, before the insertion of the implant);
- you have a history of breast cancer; and
- you are taking any medications which may prevent the contraceptive implant from working effectively
